Christians Give Scandal

Every single time we do something like this, we deserve the mockery of the world.  Excerpts:
Police officers in Northern Ireland came under attack during a third consecutive night of disturbances in Belfast, police said late Tuesday.

A crowd of up to 200 people gathered in the pro-British Denmark Street area of the city. Youths, some hooded, pelted officers with fireworks, bricks, bottles and other objects, including golf balls, officials said...

The violence on Tuesday appeared to be less intense than the two previous nights when more than 60 police officers were injured trying to keep the peace during disturbances. Six people were arrested Tuesday and three officers suffered injuries that did not require medical treatment, police said.

Police said the disorder was linked to tensions between Catholics and Protestants over parades in a district near Carlisle Circus...
I understand this is all part of a dispute with a long history, immensely complicated, one which I have never really had to live through.  I get that.  And everyone has their own particular set of besetting sins which others don't struggle with to the same extent, so who am I to judge people under provocation, with a history, so forth and so on--all true. At the same time, guys, if Christians do not call out their fellow Christians when we do something like this, we have absolutely no ground to stand on when we get all indignant at Islamic leaders and the average Muslims for not calling out their coreligionists on acts of violence, intolerance, etc.

So--every time something like this happens, we give scandal to the world.  We deserve a bad name for acts such as these, even if it doesn't tend to come.  This is ridiculous.  We really are a religion of peace and love.  We really can do better than this.  Argue about the historic injustices committed by England--fine.  Speak out against violence from Irish nationalists--great.  Hold your marches--why not?  But all of this really should be able to happen without people attacking each other like this.
